In recent times we all have come across many chit chats about changes that should be brought in Indian Education System and I personally vote in favor of it. When we talk about Indian shining and growth story of a common Indian across the globe we ignore the fact that we can do far better when it comes to create better leaders and entrepreneurs. Then what is stopping us to do all this ? The answer lies in our day to day life scenarios which we all cross without noticing even.
It starts from our schools and ends up at graduation or post graduations in most of the cases. A 5 year kid joins school and from very first class he is expected to come out with flying colors and top in the class when he can hardly recall how many alphabets are there in English. When he grows up he starts observing and learning from the external environment , his peers , televisions , celebrities , parents , he wants to be a cricketer but because the success ratio is very less parents won't allow him to hold a bat and start dreaming. What they want ? Sharmaji's son has recently topped in his class so should you. The pressure is immense and what will the poor child do ? He will start slogging day and night just to ensure that he gets more marks then all the children his parents know about if not top in the class. In this expedition both the child and parents forget one thing , that is there child even learning something or he is becoming just another book worm which we Indians are famous for.
Again our education system also supports all this which has created various slabs or segments which contains students from different academic background but they ignore the fact that in pursuing this marks and percentage game , innovative ideas and analytical skills all go for a toss. If you have this many marks you can get admission in this college , but I personally has seen so many talented people around me who never got good marks in there academics but now are very successful in whatever they are doing. Someone has become a very successful businessman , someone is working at Taj hotels, someone was hired by one of international banks, someone is also playing IPL.
So when we know that marks are never a true representative of a persons capability then why our society which is already being cursed by so many classes and castes has created another segment where entry is based on how many A+ grades you have throughout your career. I also never understood one thing that in my school I studied one of the toughest subjects like Physics , Chemistry and Mathematics but except Mathematics I have not been able to use my knowledge of Physics and Chemistry anywhere in my professional life. When I can't utilize it then why did I studied that even?. No one knows the answer even I don't , but this is what we all are going through for many decades and this will continue for many years to come.
Today most of big corporates are crying over higher attrition rate , declining employee productivity and what not , even when they ensure that they are hiring from top B-schools , Engineering colleges and universities. If students studying in these top notch colleges are so good then why they can't handle the pressure that is being laid upon there shoulders by these companies ? The answer to this is still unknown or we all know but just because changes are difficult to implement no one bothers to come up and start doing something. The government has to come up with new model where they can ensure that marks doesn't becomes a criteria of selection but innovative aspect , hard working nature and mental toughness should be evaluated while making any selection.
I personally never understood that why a student who has worked hard in his earlier stages of life say class 10th and 12th and secured 90% or above can be a perfect candidate 10 years down the line too when we all know that in these 10 years he might have lost his focus and become less responsible. Even the opposite is true what if a student was not focused when he was in class 10th or 12th but later he suddenly discovered his strengths and became one of the best around but our because our education system is like this only that the latter case wont succeed but the earlier one will definitely.
With such a huge talent pool we should now ensure that selection criteria and selection procedures should be modified just to ensure that the even if you select the bad ones make sure a good one is not lost !!!!
You speak the mind of a zillion hearts!! And mine. :)) Congo for the new blog!
